6 months ago – Tue, Dec 09, 2025 at 05:08:55 PM

Hello again!

Some wonderful news: we've unlocked Stretch Goal #1 and Milestone Reward #1!

That means all physical backers get a free bookmark with art by Dave Law so you can mark your books to your heart's content. AND all backers will be listed in the back of the digital edition.

PLUS, it also means it's time to announce the 2nd stretch goal! And here we go:

That's right! Once we pass the next goal, all physical backers will receive a sticker featuring art by Gerald Von Stoddard!

And the 2nd Milestone Reward:

When we hit 130 backers, everyone will receive the super cool comic, The Fog Within, by Sean Wood and David Deon! The Fog Within is a dystopian sci-fi 24 page comic book which follows what seems to be an average joe protagonist, Hunter, into this unfamiliar new world of a future with an unsuspecting and mysterious power. This story is like Days of Future Past.

PLUS, GET YOUR HANDS ON THIS EXCLUSIVE METAL BOOKMARK

This metal bookmark is now available as an add-on. There will be only 15 created, and they will be numbered.

PLUS 5 of these 15 are available for 10% off!

Kickstarter can make it a little tricky to update your add-ons, so here's how you do so:

Start by clicking HERE or on the above image of the bookmark and then

  •  On app: go to the "Manage Pledge" tab in Kickstarter, click the "..." tab at the top right, and then click "Edit Reward." Click on the reward you already chose and then the add-on section will pop up. Scroll down to "Manatee Attack Metal Bookmark 10% Off" and add it to your pledge.
  •  On desktop: click the "Manage your pledge" tab at the top, click "change reward," and click on the reward you already chose. Once you hit "continue," the add-on section will pop up. Scroll down to "Manatee Attack Metal Bookmark" and add it to your pledge.

And a reminder:

I'm giving away a free copy of The Wrestler by John Kenn Mortensen in the latest issue of my newsletter, The Omninaut.  [click here] for the newsletter entry (ending this week!).

Here’s what it’s about:

Freestyle wrestler The Sledgehammer has never met defeat, not at the hands of Painkiller, Handsome Jens, Fezzik the Giant or the Angel of Death. But over the course of 80 pages, Danish illustrator John Kenn Mortensen’s surreal black and white graphic novel will take Sledgehammer to the limits of reality, to show that he’s motivated by far more than hubris--it’s also love.

HERO OF THE PROPHECY by JONATHAN LONDON

Click the project image to check it out!

This book is a Pro Wrestling High Fantasy adventure starring Real-Life wrestler Paul London! Hey, maybe if you put this issue of MANDRILL P.I. close enough to Hero of The Prophecy, then Paul and Jefe Jaguar can put on a match!

'Paul London: Hero of the Prophecy’ is equal parts sci-fi fantasy, comedic adventure, and pro wrestling entertainment told in a nostalgic 80s style. This mistaken identity comedy is the story of washed-up, real-life pro wrestler Paul London, who is magically transported across the universe to a distant planet of sword and sorcery.

Once there, he is mistaken to be the Hero of The Prophecy, destined to free the people of this alien planet from the rule of Ramzaar, an evil sorcerer. Ultimately, Paul must learn to use his pro-wrestling skills and false bravado to not only survive the strange, magical world and its ferocious inhabitants but also Ramzaar’s dark forces. Along the way, he befriends the owl-like wizard Finnegan and the stunningly beautiful, sword-wielding princess Sheetara... all in the hopes of becoming a true hero!

THE TALES OF MR. RHEE by DIRK MANNING

Click the image to check it out!

Another super cool horror book by Dirk Manning!

Here's what it's about:

Several years ago Hell invaded Earth as part of an invasion and infestation that included widespread demonic devastation, the return of Cthulhu and the Great Old Ones, and a Rapture that whisked a third of the human population into the Heavens, never to be seen again.

After "Three Days of Darkness" the angels interceded and drove the demons away, leaving those those who survived to their own devices and to rebuild a normal, monster-free society once more... or so most of the world believes.

Mr. Rhee is one of the few who knows the monsters aren't all really gone and that a demonic "New World Order" has humanity at more risk than ever. He is now among a select few who has dedicated his life and skills to protecting those still impacted by the ever-encroaching forces of evil.

Now, in this latest volume of our horror-noir series, he is thrust into protecting a man with a potentially divine origin from being captured and consumed by the Vampire Queen and her brood who see his blood as their chance to achieve true immortality.

We've funded, so that means it's time to announce our first stretch goals:

That's right! When we pass $3,750, all physical backers will receive a free copy of this campaign's bookmark featuring art from the AMAZING Dave Law. We're already closing in on it, so keep spreading the word about the project. And when we get to 110 backers, all backer names will be listed in the back of the digital edition (we're only 8 backers away!).

There are many more where these came from, so let's pass these goals and move on to the next ones :)

AND ANOTHER COOL ANNOUNCEMENT:

I got a really cool email from Kickstarter: MANDRILL P.I. has been selected as a “Project We Love!” This is a huge honor, and I'm incredibly excited by the news.

But I'm more excited for the amazing support you have shown for this project. Thank you again!

Please keep sharing it on your socials so we can keep the momentum going. And the more we fund, the more cool stuff gets added to the rewards!  :)

We've funded!

Thank you!

I'm blown away by the support for this little cartoon mandrill. You are AMAZING.

But we have 20 days left in the campaign! And it doesn't shut down just because we've met the initial funding goal.

All it means is that publication is now guaranteed. Which is SO exciting, and something for which I’m so appreciative. Thanks to YOU, this cartoon noir tale can continue.

But now that we have 20 days left, this is an amazing opportunity to really expand our audience. I hope you’ll help me do so by continuing to promote the Kickstarter campaign on your social channels during the remaining few weeks.

I'll be back soon with Stretch Goal and Milestone Reward announcements.

And a reminder:

I'm giving away a free copy of Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees in the latest issue of my newsletter, The Omninaut. It's a book filled with ridiculously cute anthropomorphic characters. And one is a serial killer. [click here] for the newsletter entry (ending this week!).

WISHFUL THINKING by JACK RAINES

Click the image to check it out!

My friend Jack is back with another issue of Wishful Thinking! And our very own Carlos Trigo has illustrated another AMAZING cover for the series.

Wishful Thinking is an introspective urban fantasy about Jim, an ex-genie turned Wish Consultant in a world where fantasy is just now meeting our reality.

As a Wish Consultant Jim works with clients who have found themselves in the company of a Granter, a generic term used for any magical creature who can grant wishes, and it's up to him to make sure his clients get EXACTLY what they wish for.

This six issue series follows Jim through three clients who need wishes fixed, all of which have been provided by a mysterious Fairy who's offered Jim a wish of his own if he manages to set them right.  Through each case we'll peel back the layers of this world, and learn how Jim navigates a life without his most defining traits.

FLOATERS by EDWARD DAVIS

Click the cover image to check it out!

This book is perfect for fans of horror or body horror.

What it's about:

Have you or a loved one ever experienced eye floaters?  If not, consider yourself lucky. What are floaters you may be asking? Floaters are different sized shapes that seeming hover through your visual field.

Doctors say that they are vitreous deposits in the eyes that come with age. They will try to convince you that they are typically harmless. However, I'm here to tell you that they are far more nefarious than your optometrist will ever admit.

The truth is that floaters are parasites that invade your brain and force you to do things that you would never do of your own free will.

Floaters are a curse, a plague that will destroy everything you have ever loved.

Read it if you dare, but don't trust your eyes.

BALLAD OF THE BLACK ROSE by KYRUN SILVA & DANNY QUICK

Click the image to check it out!

This is supernatural western about a family trying to start a new life in the Wild West, only to encounter a strange entity that gets them in trouble with the law!

In the shadow of a rising sun and a broken past, the Rose family sets out west to begin again. They stake a claim on a patch of quiet land nestled near a range of hills whispered about in local legends. It's supposed to be a new start. A peaceful life.

But peace doesn't come easy in the wild.

Soon after settling, strange happenings stir in the hills—unexplained lights, missing livestock, and dreams that don’t feel like dreams at all. The locals speak in hushed tones of an ancient entity that sleeps beneath the stones.

Then the sheriff comes. He says the land belongs to the town. That the Rose family need to leave.

They don’t.
A fight breaks out.
And when blood is spilled on cursed ground, nothing stays buried for long...

We've had an AMAZING start! Thank you so much!

Hello!

Day 3 of the campaign is over, and it has been a fantastic start.

I can't thank you enough for that and for helping to bring this comic about a down-on-his-luck cartoon mandrill to life. YOU are amazing. In this issue, the action ratchets up, and I can't wait to share it with you!

I look forward to continuing this Kickstarter ride with you! It would make me the happiest author in the world if you'd continue spreading the word about this project. The more people we get to back, the cooler the rewards will become.

Also, I'm giving away a free copy of Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees in the latest issue of my newsletter, The Omninaut. It's a book filled with ridiculously cute anthropomorphic characters. And one is a serial killer. [click here] for the newsletter entry.

HALLOWED by KYLE STÜCK

Click the image to check it out

What it's about: A desperate band of deserters find themselves lost in a mysterious forest, hunted not only by their sins and the religious zealots pursuing them…but the very woods themselves.

Hallowed is a good old-fashioned horror story set in a mysterious and haunted forest. Think Kingdom of Heaven meets Brian Jacques’ Redwall series plunged into the weird and fantastical work of Robert E. Howard’s horror.

Civil war has ravaged the country of Metazoa as two opposing faiths crusade for the holy city of Bilateria. Broken, beaten, and starving, a band of deserters make a desperate trek across their war-torn homeland in an attempt to escape their sins and the religious zealots pursuing them. Leading them is "Knight Tearer" Flagg, a killing machine as disillusioned as he is deadly. His goal? A ship—then Terroir, a land across the sea supposedly free of war and prejudice. He just needs to get his men there, no easy task considering the miles of frozen wasteland ahead of him and the Apostles behind, a ruthless group of soldiers tasked with snuffing out heresy and executing deserters. The situation is grim, almost hopeless, when out of nowhere...a forest appears. And in the center? A curious and ancient tower. Regardless of "how" or "why," it's a chance for survival—a shot at salvation for Flagg and his men, but upon entering the woods, strange and wicked things begin to occur...
